Meet Erica Hannagan

Hello, I’m Erica Hannagan, a counsellor and psychotherapist based in Melbourne with over 15 years of experience supporting adults through change, connection, and emotional growth.

My Approach

I practice using an integrative, psychodynamic framework—as an ISTDP-trained clinician—grounded in experiential and evidence-based therapies including Emotion-Focused Therapy and CBT. My work focuses on how emotions, defense mechanisms, and anxiety interact to create patterns like depression, relationship problems, and emotional distress.

I bring clarity, honesty, and directness to each session, because I believe therapy is most effective when clients understand the process and feel engaged in it. Therapeutic goals are collaboratively set from the very first session and guided by ongoing evaluation to support meaningful progress.

Who I Work With

I’m most aligned with those who are open-minded, curious, and committed to understanding the patterns contributing to their current challenges—whether in relationships, mood, or general life direction. I’m honoured to work with clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma history, self-sabotaging patterns, and dryness in emotional life.

What You’ll Find with Me

  • A relational space built on respect, attunement, and curiosity

  • A collaborative therapeutic alliance—no one-size-fits-all manuals

  • Commitment to continuing professional consultation and skill refinement outside of sessions.

If you’re ready to explore emotional patterns with openness, clarity, and courage, I’d welcome a conversation. Therapy is not an easy path—but it can be one that leads toward real insight and lasting change.
